What about Stage Hypnosis
Although Stage Hypnosis is not an area in which I work, as I am a clinical hypnotherapist and only use hypnosis as a theraputic tool but, I do think that stage hypnosis has its place.
However, it also has to be said that stage hypnosis can contribute to peoples doubts and fears about using hypnosis as a therarutic tool, which is why I think it important to mention the following points.
The stage hypnotist always selects thier volunteers carefully to ensure that they will partake fully in the show, remember it is after all entertainment.
The first step is to ask the audience for people who want to take part in the show.
This is the first importatnt point to note - the people concerned want to take part in the show and are willing participants.
The next step in the process is a series of suggestability tests. The result of this step ensures that not only is the person willing to take part they are also open to suggestion.
Most of the people who volunteers will be well aware of the things that go on during a stage hypnosis show and by the fact that they volunteer in the first place shows that they are up for a laugh. The hypnotist takes fulll advantage of this and would always select the most extrovert and the most suggestive to take part in the show
Once on stage there are other factors involved that could well ensure a good perfomance from the person such as peer pressure, compliance, disorientation, and ordinary suggestion.
Let's face it if they were not willing to participate they wouldn't volunteer in the first place.
